WHFAA History

The West Haven Football Alumni Association, Inc. was founded and organized in 2009 under the
leadership of Thomas “Tinker” Blake working with long-time Head Coach Ed McCarthy and Jon
Capone, the athletic director for West Haven High School. The mission of the WHFAA is to
provide the financial resources necessary to maintain a top flight football program while focusing
on preparing the members of the team to be successful in life.

It was registered as non-stock not for profit organization in 2009. The WHFAA has been active in
supporting the Westies football program and West Haven High School ever since. In 2010, the
WHFAA, working with Westie alumnus Ralph Heckert, sponsored the annual Heckert Scholarship
Program to graduating seniors of West Haven High School who demonstrate superb scholarship,
community service and athletic participation and achievement.

As our Founding Father, Tinker Blake served as WHFAA Executive Director from 2009 through
2012. Bert Siclari served two terms as President in 2011 and 2012 and Dave Rettig served two
terms as President in 2013 and 2014. Westie Alumnus Steve Francis has served as Treasurer of
the WHFAA since its inception. In March 2014, the WHFAA filed with the IRS its Application for
Recognition of Exemption under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
